Mr Espina John Miguel Ocampo, Grade 12 Graduate
Attending Heritage Academy has been an incredible experience. I have been in Heritage Academy for nine years. I have seen a lot of students and teachers come and go. The teachers here are great! They don’t just focus on academics—they genuinely care about helping every student find their passions and succeed. I still remember this English teacher who helped me with English, specifically in grammar rules. The way she explained it was extraordinary. It’s something you just find yourself listening to without realizing you are already learning. Another great example would be my Math teacher. He was joyful and passionate in teaching maths, and he made one of the supposedly difficult equations look easy. The teachers here also look out for their students. For example, this teacher hand-washed the gown I am wearing in the picture above. I am so blessed to have teachers who look out for me!
My leadership was truly tested during my volunteer work earning sports credits. Working closely under the guidance of a teacher who mentored me on how to effectively lead, I was challenged to step far outside my comfort zone. Guiding the students helped me gain the confidence to find and use my voice with authority. Furthermore, working with students with special needs tested my patience and adaptability, teaching me how to connect with individuals on a deeper, more empathetic level. Ultimately, this experience proved that effective leadership is about clear communication, empathy, and tailoring your approach to support everyone in the group.
